From the early 19th century onwards, a mass migration of settlers leaving the British Isles led to a rapid expansion of settlement in the American West and the dominions of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Two land settlement schemes spanning seven generations and nearly 200 years in Australia form the backdrop of this story of the Osborne family.

The story began in 1836 with the arrival in Adelaide of Henry Osborn in the ‘first fleet’ to South Australia as an assisted passage migrant under the Wakefield Scheme.

His grandson George Osborne left South Australia in 1895 and later joined the Group Settlement Scheme in the South-West of Western Australia when he took up a farm on Group 41 (Carmarthen) near Denmark on 4 December 1922.

Today, the Osborne family celebrates 100 years of living on that original Group Settlement property.
