To commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death, a collection of the photographs of H.T. “Bert” Saw taken between 1900 and the 1950’s is presented. We are showcasing Bert’s work using his glass plates and images from three albums that he produced. Starting when he lived in Albany, his photographs illustrate aspects of life around King George Sound. He then moved to Bow River where he recorded the pioneer settlement of the area west of Denmark, cattle droving, clearing land, farming, homes, building of roads and bridges, the Group Settlement Scheme in the area and the construction of the Eastern stage of the Big Brook to Denmark railway. Social and community events including political gatherings, shows, school events, weddings and portraits appear in his photographs.
